Fossil Museum In the hall of the cement works Holcim (formerly Rohrbach Zement) is a fossil museum containing some 1,000 exhibits of Jurassic fossils originating from the Western Alb. Ichthyosaurs, pterodactyls, crocodiles, fish, sea lilies, ammonites and small fossils which were found in the oil-shale of the Lias Epsilon give testimony of former life on earth. A scale model of the earth's history starting from the Cambrian period provides an illustration of evolution. The visitor can learn how the oil-shell conserved the fossils up to present times and how it serves as a raw material for the production of cement. Oil-shell is made available to fossil hunters by the cement experts and hammers can also be borrowed to facilitate such an activity. Every first Thursday of the month a palaeontologist classifies all pieces found.
