Hiking, Biking, Sports The Alb precipice with its steep rocks, for example the Lochen Hörnle near Balingen or the Hangenden Stein near Albstadt-Onstmettingen divides the district of Zollernalb into the lovely Alb foothills and the rugged Alb plateau with the typical juniper heaths. The Zollernalb area forms to the highest part of the Swabian Alb and therefore provides breathtaking views of the Alps or of the Black Forest. Many well-signposted hiking and cycling routes of different degrees of difficulty invites one to experience the area's natural beauty.
Special routes are for example | Hohenzollern Route, the long-distance trail on emperor's tracks
| | Jakobswege (Jacob's routes), the pilgrimer’s trails from the Swabian Alb to Lake Constance
| | Legend trails that make you feel a part of myths, fairytales and stories
| | Walking-tours on the mountains of the Swabian Alb that rise 1,000 meters high
| | Swabian Alb Northern border trail, the panorama trail along the Alb precipice |
From May to October the cycle and hiking shuttle (Rad & Wander Shuttle) runs between Tübingen, Hechingen, Balingen and Schömberg. The cycle-hiking-buses are matched to the train departures and provide transfer between the different starting points for hiking and cycle tours. Touring tips can be obtained free of charge at the Zollernalb tourist info or on the web under www.zollernalb.com.
