Roman Open Air Museum Roman villa and open air museum in Hechingen-Stein. One of the biggest and best preserved roman villas dating from the 1st to the 3rd century AC. Several buildings have been excavated and partially rebuilt. The visitor can see the main building, the bath house, the temple area, the mill, the archway and the forge. The original discoveries of the excavations are exposed. Some of the rooms have been restored and equipped in accordance with the antiquity of the period. A virtual show of a walk through the villa illustrates the ancient looks of the building. In former times the villa must have been impressive seen from the valley below. The ongoing excavations give insight in archaeology and permanently extend the area. Visitors can take a rest on the terrace where food and drink are available.
